About Doug Hensch, Founder
Doug Hensch is a Certified Facilitator and Coach of Intent-Based Leadership (IBL) — the transformative leadership framework created by former U.S. Navy submarine Captain David Marquet. As one of a select group of certified IBL practitioners, Doug helps leaders at every level shift from a “tell culture” to one built on ownership, clarity of intent, and genuine empowerment.
Doug’s work is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: great leadership isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about building the conditions where others can think and act at their best. Through IBL coaching, facilitation, and workshops, he helps executives, managers, and teams move away from leader-follower dependency and toward organizations where initiative and accountability thrive at every level.
An ICF (International Coach Federation) credentialed executive coach, Doug brings decades of leadership experience to his practice. He led high-impact initiatives at Nextel Communications, where his work generated over $10 million in annual savings, and launched a self-improvement platform that helped more than 100,000 people build well-being and resilience. Dr. Martin Seligman, the “father of Positive Psychology” at the University of Pennsylvania, recognized Doug as one of his “most talented young colleagues.”
Doug lives in the Washington, DC metro area with his family. When he’s not coaching leaders or facilitating IBL workshops, rooting for the Buffalo Bills, playing pickleball with friends or practicing Jiu-Jitsu.
